Flowers that attract birds.....

Because of a request from a friend, Srini P, I decided to look at my Flickr account and see what images I have, of birds on flowering and fruiting trees.

I realize that some trees, like the Banyan (Ficus religiosa), the Red Silk-cotton (Ceiba pentandra), the Flame of the Forest or Palash (Butea monosperma) and the Indian Coral Tree (Erythrina indica) are total bird magnets, and when they are in bloom (or fig, in the case of the Banyan!) they attract a lot of birds. But looking through my photographs also made me realize that there is not a single flowering bush, climber, creeper or tree that birds will not come to! From the delicate flowers of Scarlet Glory (Ipomoea hederifolia) to the more robust blooms of the Indian Milkweed (Calatropis gigantea), all flowers attract birds, which are quick to take advantage of the nectar offered, in exchange for pollinating the flowers. Even waterfowl can be seen amongst the Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)

I have collected 40 photographs of birds on flowers; you can see for yourself the huge variety, which is just a tiny fraction of what can be seen!
