More living things....

After photographing the RED-TAILED HAWKS' nest, I walked back, trying to decide where to have my picnic lunch, which, in the heat and humidity, , had started weighing heavily on my shoulder....but as I walked, I stopped thinking about it, for this lovely yellow water lily greeted me:

Here, you can see the ruby throat of the bird's name:

I really had to whip the camera into these three shots as in a flash the bird disappeared!

Sunset found me very satisfied with my long, solitary ramble in Forest Park!

One Vegetable I've not taken to...

I've never eaten

Artichokes

artichoke 200510

before, so when D bought some, I wanted to try them out. He cooked them in the pressure cooker and we had them with some sour cream sauce.

I must say, the vegetable looks aesthetically so pleasing...it's like a green lotus! But as I was taught how to eat it...pull off the leaves one by one, eat the lower, fleshy parts, setting them aside, and then finally coming to the heart set in a thicket of spines...I was far less enchanted.

I feel eating an artichoke is a lot of work to get very little of actual stuff to eat, and those spines could get into your gum, too....

Reminds me of the

Custard Apple or Seetaphal, which, to me, also represents a lot of work to get at a little bit of snot-like substance that I don't like the taste of, anyway!

If someone reading this does like artichokes or custard apples...tell me how you eat them!

The Wedding Expenses....

Summer is setting in, and it's time for weddings, and of course, a lot of young couples choose to get married in the open air, in the beautiful environs of Forest Park. A wedding is an expensive affair, because one has (or two have, or the families have, or the bride's parents have) to pay for .....

The bride's making sure that the rainy, muddy path doesn't spoil her lovely dress, or her special shoes, though apparently she could exchange them with any of her bridesmaids!

Obviously, I couldn't photograph the other major expense, which would be the food and drink, as I wasn't invited to this wedding....I was only a brief bystander, but after they went to all this expense...the result was such a delightful scene, with beautiful young women, handsome young men, happiness glowing on everyone's faces, and the wonderful warm feeling on seeing a new life-for-two starting from a point where two separate lives joined together!

I am a hopeless romantic, and I think money that's spent to create such a beautiful, memorable event is well spent....
