The insect-eating plant, Shivanahalli, 171010

I'd gone with Girish and birdonthewire for the 3rd Sunday bngbirds outing, this time from the Ramakrishna Ashram, Shivanahalli, on into the Bannerghatta forest area. The highlight for me, was Harsha spotting this wonderful

Sundew or Drosera (from the Greek for "dew of the sun") plant

...a tiny plant that's insectivorous!

They are very small, but there were many of them growing on the moist, rain-course surfaces and mossy rock-pools on the sheet rock:

If you look carefully, you can see the insects that have fallen into the "dew trap"!

is Karthik's note about the plant.

I'll be posting some more sights from the outing next.

3rd Sunday bngbirds outing, from Ramakrishna Ashram, Shivanahalli, into Bannerghatta Forest : 171010

Today's outing was both more interesting, and longer-lasting, than I had anticipated. I've been to the Ramakrishna Ashram several times, and we've always just walked a little past the campus and come back. So today I was very surprised to be able to go for quite a longish trek up hill and down dale!

Here are a few of us, in the morning, with the Swamiji of the Ashram:

Let me close with this

which posed for us:

A wonderful outing, though it took far longer than I'd planned on!
