We are often told, when something is designated as the best of its kind, that it's the

"Rolls-Royce"

of that category. So when, the other evening, we were walking past the

Big Shark cycle shop

and D pointed out a Rolls in the parking lot, I stopped to snap:

rolls royce delmar 100410

That's a

Silver Cloud

The car next to it is a Bentley...what are the odds of those two cars being parked next to each other like that?

At one time, the Rolls-Royce slogan was, "The loudest thing in the car is...the clock".

I wonder how the Rolls, the acme of car luxury (and excellence...when it was not defined by fuel economy!) , has adapted to the changing times and rising fuel prices...

Ah. Can you believe, I'd totally forgotten about their aircraft engines!

They still make luxury cars not meant for people who care about fuel prices

This one gives about 5kmpl.

WHATTTT!!! FIVE kmpl!! and there are people who buy it...they'll probably be driving it from petrol pump to petrol pump...!

This one is a true class act! Cannot think of the fuel economy when you are going to such classy ones.

Ram

But Ram...look at what Sandeep has said above...FIVE km per litre!! The Ghost in this case would be the bank balance!

I seriously canNOT understand why "class" cannot be green. Why does it have to be wasteful?

By definition luxury is about consumption and green is about economy - the two are antithetical.

They only sell cars to people who have private fuel pumps or a few oil wells. Rolls Royce recommended accessory is a fuel tanker so that the car can go on road trips. :-)

5 KMPL isn't uncommon in American cars. High-end Porsches, Merecedes, BMWs, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and many others average around there. Hummers look fuel efficient when compared to those cars - it is just that no one talks about them since they are almost always exclusive cars that sell in low numbers.

Yathin, thou art guilty, too, by this list!! :)

Oh well, I am done exclaiming about this! Luxury, by definition, seems to mean egregious waste.
