February: 3rd Sunday outing to Shivanahalli Ramakrishna Ashram, 200211
It was quite a large group that met up in front of my home, and we all proceeded first to the Ragihalli sheet rock area. It was still pre-dawn, the time referred to by the ancients as Usha....but the lights in the valley were twinkling, and the dawn was approaching:

The whole group gathered together at the Ashram, and we listened to Swamiji's plans for long treks in the near future:

I have often written about how unusual the Swamiji is; he has greened the forest area and several parts of the Ashram, always encourages the children of the Ashram school to get outdoors, and is running the plantation also successfully. There's coffee, cocoa, arecanut, coconuts, and also

We divided tha group into two; one group went off on an all-day trek/trail, and the rest of us went on a shorter trail. As we walked along, Anushka (and the rest of us, too!) were delighted that a

landed on her dress, and stayed there for quite half an hour!

The guide for our group, provided by the Ashram, was Siddappa:

I was too busy making sure that the group (we were still a fairly large one!) did not stray off in different directions, to do much photography, but one of the things I liked was this

posing for us at the gate of Camp Gee Dee:

Once we came back, these young schoolgirls, in their colourful clothes, clustered around Carolyn and Nina, and they were all chatting nineteen to the dozen, and the girls were looking at their photographs!

The Ashram provided excellent idli/sambar and pulao for every one...most of us made it brunch!

On the way back home, I was just wondering why I had not sighted our usual By-the-Roadside

...and wham, I found Sushil and Vaibhav had stopped their bikes and were aiming their cameras at the beautiful bird!

More photographs on Facebook,

It was a lovely outing, though it did get rather hot towards the end; thanks to Adhikari for taking Carolyn, Nina and me along...and stopping for a cold pineapple juice to cool down a very overheated Carolyn.

idahoswede and kejn have gone back to London and Sweden...I am missing them, their affectionate company and their unbridled enjoyment of everything that my city, State and country had to offer them...

Hey, my bum doesn't look so bad from the rear after all. I lost 7kg in India and not from a distressing cause either! Miss you tons as well.

i thought you looked skinnier by the end, but 7 kilos?? :-O

Welcome back to your home...I'm sure it felt wonderful, too....I miss your presence a lot more than I thought I would. You are every bit as I thought you'd be, and I'm glad we were able to spend that much time together.

How's the jet lag?

Oh wow, I should have charged you for the automatic weight-loss programe-while-eating-well, too! OK, will be added to my kickback list.

it's so strange to be back in the cold and silent north. will take a while to get back to normal... miss you much and have already told my mother i now have a big sister in india!

My extremely-beautiful-inside-and-outside younger-sister-that-I-never-had....NOW I know that that beautiful eye and eyebrow is YOURS!!

I do miss you....more than I thought I would. Yes, life goes on, but it was SO much fun when you were here.

Are you over your jet lag? How bad was it? Your mother must be SO glad to have you back!

Will go and eat some junk food tonight (driving down to Chennai tomorrow) and think of you both!

it WAS my eye 10 years ago when digital enhancing was done just for fun and not to hide my now standard bags and wrinkles. :)

jet lag shouldn't be a problem, though i did wake up really early today. managed to go back to sleep and woke up well after sunrise thinking i had gone deaf because it is so quiet here, ha ha!

The butterfly and the little girl together make the perfect picture.

Shikra is awesome!!!

And the little girls look so cute!
